LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Bruce Beresford-Redman is breaking his silence in a “48 Hours” interview from inside his Mexican jail cell.

“I am innocent. I did not kill my wife, I had nothing to do with her death,” said Beresford-Redman, appearing disheveled and worn out.

“When they told me that I was going to be held for trial, I… I just couldn’t believe it,” he said.

For the first time he is telling his side of the story to “48 Hours”. The former TV producer maintained that he is an innocent man, wrongly accused for the death of his wife Monica.

“I really was hopping and thinking that I was going home. I really didn’t I was coming back here. I thought we’re finally going to just finally put an end to this part of the nightmare and that I would be back with my children,” he said.

The 38-year-old is the prime suspect in his wife’s murder.

“To my children to Camilla and Alec, I love you guys so much. I miss you so much. I am sorry that mommy’s gone and that now daddy’s gone too. I am doing everything I can to come back to you guys as quickly as I can,” Beresford-Redman said.

He will be tried in Cancun, Mexico where she was killed two years ago. The couple was there on trip to repair their fractured marriage.

“I just was crushed. I just could not understand how this decision was reached. It just does not make any sense to me,” he said.

“More lies, more lies and it’s painful,” said Allison Trissel, the attorney representing Monica’s siblings.

“He has been fairly arrogant throughout entire proceedings. This case gained national attention, because there is someone who is involved in the entertainment industry. It’s a marriage that involved infidelity and it was a very gruesome murder,” Trissel said.

She said the Burgos family refuses to talk about this first jailhouse interview.

“This has been such a tragedy for them and for him to deny it and say that he had no involvement. And it’s really difficult for them, it’s a slap in the face for them,” she said.

You can see the entire interview Beresford-Redman this Saturday at 10 P.M. on “48 Hours”.
